The Hesston Steam Museum is committed to the health and safety of our volunteers and guests, in all aspects of our operations. With the recent increase in Covid-19 cases, both in our area and across the nation, the museum’s board of directors has made the difficult decision to suspend public operations until further notice.
The museum will continue restoration and preservation work during this time and volunteers are encouraged to continue their work if they feel comfortable in doing so. We will reopen the museum grounds when we feel that we can do so in a safe manner that follows all recommended health guidelines. As a result of this decision, the board will extend all 2020 memberships through the 2021 operating season.
It is our sincere hope that we will be able to hold our annual Labor Day Show, Ghost Train and Candy Cane Express; please stay tuned for updates on these future planned events. —Board of DirectorsLaPorte County Historical Steam Society
What a fun and affordable day of experiential learning! Train rides were such fun, longer than we expected and only $4.25 for adults and $2.50 for kids per ride - that's great opportunity to learn for less than a carnival ride! The people running the trains were so open to share how the trains worked and happy to be there so it made it wonderful to ask questions and see how the trains really work. Very laid back, relaxing afternoon outside. We were there with our 9 year old for about 4 hours.
What a wonderful time we had! The Museum is so much fun and there is plenty to see! The rides are reasonable and my husband and I had a great time talking with the terrific volunteers, enjoying the various demonstrations, having lunch in the soda shop and walking the grounds. We were both impressed with the volunteers and their expertise at what they do. We plan on going back. It was a breath of fresh air going back in time at the Heston Steam Museum.
Family fun for everyone!Must do if you are in Northern Indiana/Southwest Michigan. It's perfect for a family day or even if you are looking for something to do that's different and you don't have kids. The staff is pretty much all volunteers and they take so much pride in the trains and making sure everyone has a great experience. They even have a soda shop and restaurant there now too! I highly recommend the breakfast! This is a seasonal attraction so make sure you plan ahead, however, they do open for Halloween with a Haunted Ghost Train (appropriate for all ages) and a Christmas Train with a Santa there too!
